The Textures Project is an attempt to get back to the roots.

This mix was constructed using 50 loops (the loops are laid out for 130 bars), burned to CDs, and mixed using a Vestax CDX-12. Each loop is 124 bpm. Additional effects are added from vinyl records. No software was used except for mastering. I did not use headphones while mixing. Why no headphones? Well, I wanted to  throw it to chance. Think about it. All the beats are the same bpm, and most quite minimal. So regardless of how you layer the tracks there will always be a nice texture....a cool hook....something in there. Its up to you, the DJ, to find it.  Sometimes it works out, other times, its odd. It always makes you think. It helps if you have a mixer with nice kills. 50 'tracks' in 65 minutes......it constantly evolving. The second one track is out, you can bring in another.

I can't tell you how much joy this project has brought me. Rather than simply playing tracks....slogging away at  completing tracks no one will ever hear......beat exploration.....deep in the caves where the beats are dug from the rock...... digging up the beat gems....then creating jewelry.....

(I am ultra busy, so don't get pissed if it takes a while for me to reply)

Guidelines:

1) 124 bpm

2) Try and stay away from 4/4

3) Add your initials to the end of each loop so we can track who owns it.

4) I would suggest you listen to the mix so you can see what I am talking about.

5) Fucked up, 5/7 trippy beats encouraged. Ambient? Illbient? Its all good.....

Cheers,

JH
